From humble beginnings, Sydney United Volleyball Club has grown into one of the most respected and recognised volleyball communities in the greater Sydney region. Based in the heart of the city, we are proud to promote skill development, teamwork, and a lifelong passion for the game.
But our vision doesn’t stop at state or national borders — we aspire to compete and represent Sydney on the international stage. We've already taken bold steps in that direction, participating in prestigious events like the Japan Mixed World Cup and the Inje Injoy Challenge Tournament in South Korea.

📌 What We Offer
Youth Development Pathways
We are committed to nurturing the next generation of athletes through structured junior development programs. Our Youth & Junior Development Pathways provide opportunities for players as young as 10 to develop skills, build confidence, and transition into state and national competitions.
High-Level Coaching
Our coaching staff includes multiple Level 3 National Coaches and Level 2 State Coaches, supported by many emerging coaches. Each program is led by qualified and passionate coaches who bring national and international experience to the court.
Referee Development
Sydney United is proud to be one of the few clubs actively investing in referee development. We have multiple Level 3 National Referees and Level 2 State Referees, including members of the NSWVRA Board. Each year, our referees cover nearly 50% of SVL matches, and we continue to encourage and develop new referees through our pathways.
Club Programs
Recreational Programs – Social and beginner-friendly.
Development Programs – Structured skill-building for rising athletes.
Skill Clinics – Focused sessions on setting, hitting, serving, and defence.
Competitive Teams – Competing in SVL, YSVL, and top-tier tournaments.
🧑🏫 Meet Our Coaches
At Sydney United Volleyball Club, our coaching team combines national and international expertise to help players reach their full potential — from grassroots development to elite performance.
Coach Amer Chermand – Level 3 National Coach and former Olympian (1960s), with decades of experience leading our Men’s program.
Coach Azuma Arakaki – Level 3 National Coach from the Japan Volleyball Association, serving as Head Coach for the Women’s program.
Coach Jinsoo Han – Level 2 State Coach from Korea, leading the Junior Boys program with a focus on skill development and competitive success.
Coach Kevin Chan – Level 2 State Coach, Head of the Junior Girls program, bringing 5 years of experience in nurturing young talent.
Our head coaches are supported by a dedicated team of accredited coaches, ensuring every player receives high-quality guidance and support at every level of the game.

Sydney United Volleyball Club takes policies, governance, and risk management seriously. All club policies — including Child Safeguarding, Working With Children Checks, Photography, Social Media, and Risk Management — are reviewed annually by the Board to ensure compliance with legislation, best practice, and the safety of all members.
