Purpose Statement

The purpose of this policy is to ensure Sydney United Volleyball Club (SUV) complies with NSW child protection legislation by screening all personnel engaged in child-related work through the NSW Working With Children Check (WWC Check). This policy complements the SUV Child Safeguarding Policy and promotes a safe environment for children participating in volleyball.


Policy Application

This policy applies to:

  • All SUV employees, contractors, volunteers, members, and other individuals engaged in child-related work.

  • Behaviour occurring during SUV business, activities, competitions, and events.


Definitions

  • Child/Children: Person under the age of 18 years.

  • Child-related work: Work that usually involves contact with a child, as defined under the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 (NSW).

  • Member: Individual registered with SUV.

  • Staff: Employees, contractors, volunteers, and unpaid students on placement.

  • Voluntary work: Work without financial reward beyond reimbursement of costs.

  • WWC Check Registration Officer: SUV personnel responsible for maintaining compliance.

  • Working With Children Check (WWC Check): NSW screening for individuals working in child-related roles.


Policy Statement

SUV is committed to ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all children. Compliance with NSW legislation includes:

Obligations

  • All personnel engaged in child-related work must obtain a valid NSW WWC Check before commencing duties.

  • Maintain accurate records of WWC checks, including expiry dates, for all staff, volunteers, and contractors.

  • Remove anyone who refuses to obtain or renew a WWC Check from child-related work.

  • Cease engagement immediately if a WWC Check is revoked or barred.

Confidentiality

  • All WWC Check information is confidential and only accessible to authorised personnel.

  • Only the WWC Check Registration Officer or authorised representatives manage WWC applications and renewals.

Interstate Work

  • Personnel volunteering or travelling interstate must comply with local WWC or equivalent child protection legislation.


Responsibilities

SUV will:

  • Appoint a WWC Check Registration Officer to maintain compliance.

  • Identify all roles involving child-related work.

  • Educate staff, members, and volunteers on WWC Check requirements.

  • Keep accurate records demonstrating compliance.

  • Ensure all staff renew WWC Checks before expiry.

  • Report any breaches or concerns to NSW Police or the Office of the Children’s Guardian.


Policy Breaches

  • Breaches will be addressed promptly, sensitively, and confidentially.

  • Disciplinary action may be applied per SUV Complaints Management Procedure.

  • Authorities will be contacted if a criminal offence is suspected.
