Purpose Statement
The effective management of risk is central to Sydney United Volleyball Club (SUV) achieving its purpose and mission. Understanding and proactively managing risks allows the Club to:

Protect participants, members, staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders

Improve decision-making and operational confidence

Ensure compliance with applicable legislation and standards

Achieve strategic and operational objectives efficiently
SUV adopts a structured and consistent approach to assess, mitigate, and monitor risks across all activities, events, and organisational processes.
Policy Application
This policy applies to all SUV operations, including:

Club activities, competitions, and events

Governance, administration, and financial management

Health, safety, and child safeguarding procedures

Volunteer and staff management
All stakeholders, including committee members, staff, volunteers, and participants, are responsible for managing risk within their roles.
Policy Statement

Risk Identification: SUV will maintain an up-to-date understanding of risks affecting the club, including operational, financial, reputational, safety, and strategic risks.

Risk Assessment: All risks will be assessed in terms of likelihood, consequence, and overall risk rating.

Risk Treatment: Preventative and mitigative controls will be implemented to reduce risks to an acceptable level, consistent with the Club’s risk appetite.

Monitoring and Reporting: Risk management performance will be regularly measured, reported, and communicated to the SUV Board and Executive Committee.

Continuous Improvement: SUV will review incidents, near misses, and risk treatment outcomes to improve processes, enhance learning, and support operational excellence.

Accountability: All stakeholders are accountable for ensuring controls are effective and consistently applied.
Governance and Oversight

The Executive Board is responsible for the strategic oversight of key risks crucial to delivering SUV’s mission and strategy.

The Board and volunteers support risk management activities and provide regular updates on risk status.

The risk management framework will be reviewed regularly to ensure it remains relevant and effective, and updates will be reported to the Board and relevant personnel.
Review and Compliance

This policy will be reviewed every three years or earlier if required by changes in legislation, operational needs, or community expectations.

Compliance with this policy will support high standards of governance, safety, and operational excellence.
